Academic Limbo – How to be a researcher without actively researching in a lab
In 2020 I found myself in a position that I described as an ‘academic limbo’, as I successfully achieved a place on a PhD programme but was unsuccessful in receiving funding. Nevertheless, I was still active in academia, so this created a paradox as I didn’t know how to define what I was. Therefore, I resorted to ‘PhD Place Holder,’ which I constantly had to define since it isn’t an official term.
